  • Firefly is a tagging game that explores temporal memory and exploits the balance between collaboration and competition. The action takes place at night. Players wearing flashing LED badges that are connected to wearables, compete to steal the most LED badges from other players. However the prizes you seek might be your downfall.

    Designer: Chloe Varelidi & Pollie Barden

    Chloe Varelidi | Co-Founder & Lead Creative Samurai of Play-a-thon Athens.
    She loves designing urban games, mobile games, online games and learning games. When not playing in Athens Plaython, Chloe works at the Mozilla Foundation. Previously she was the Design & Learning Lead at Peer to Peer University, and before that the Creative Director of the game design studio MissionLab within the innovative school Quest to Learn, at the Institute of Play. Chloe likes super heroes and making her own ice-cream.

    Pollie Barden
    Pollie is an artist, activist and game designer who has designed games from mobile platform to urban landscape that have been run in festivals around the globe. She has worked with Gamelab, Institute of Play and Quest2Learn. She co-founded and co-designed snagu (, photo scavenger hunt game that was a 2006 mtvU Digital Incubator Award winner. For the Institute of Play, she was a game design mentor for their annual mobileQuest summer camp for tweens. Pollie games span from just for fun to serious with a particular interest in inclusive games for people with disabilities. Pollie has a masters from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU and she is currently pursuing a PhD in Media and Arts Technology at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) where her research focuses on the integration of gameplay and telematic technology to connect people across distance spaces.
