Submit to Come Out & Play 2012 in New York City.

28 Apr

The 2012 New York festival will run over two days, July 13 & 14.

Come Out & Play After Dark – Friday July 13

On July 13, we will present Come Out & Play After Dark from 7 PM till roughly midnight in lower Manhattan. After Dark will be headquartered at @Seaport, a raw gallery space near Fulton Market and South Street Seaport (http://g.co/maps/tjemv). For this event we are looking for a combination of quick play games and several longer games running for 30 minutes to 90 minutes. We will have some space for indoor installation games, but as always, we’re most interested in street games. Here’s a link to an album of photos of the HQ space: http://bit.ly/ImbXdJ. Think about how your game will work on these streets or in this space.

Come Out & Play Field Day – Saturday July 14

On July 14, Come Out & Play will return to Governors Island for a second Field Day from roughly 12 PM to 6 PM. This year Field Day will feature two tracks: General and Family.

General Track – Games in the General track will be geared as usual to adult and teen participants.

Family Track – This year, Field Day on Governors Island will also include a mini-festival of games designed specifically for kids and families, with all of the games connected together into a single fun story line about Time Travel – complete with official time travel agents, chronological paradoxes, and imminent threats to the space-time continuum. People will be able to play just one or two games as they like, or all of them for an epic Time Travel adventure. The two requirements for consideration for the family festival, in addition to the standard COaP requirements, are:

  1. Games for the family festival should be suitable and enjoyable for both kids AND adults.
  2. Games must be set in a specific time period — Jurassic era, Roman Empire, Wild West, distant future when robots rule the world, you name it. But keep it on Earth, please. Once the selection process is complete, we’ll work with the game designers to connect their games (and time periods) to the big story line.

As always, we’re looking for fun innovative game play that takes advantage of public space and live physical play.

All submissions are due by June 1. We will be accepting submissions on a rolling basis this year. So apply early. We will respond to all submissions by June 15 at the latest.
